MISSION STATEMENT

DMTC MISSION

The mission of the Center is to prepare individuals, through the acquisition of skills, for employment in an automotive manufacturing environment.  Our purpose is to not only provide assistance in the development of skills related to specific jobs, but also to help Center participants formulate the requisite attitudes, values and related behaviors that will ensure success in the workplace.  The motivation for our effort is grounded in the belief that all people desire success and that viable employment opportunities represent an integral component of one’s success.

DMTC PROGRAM INFORMATION

The Center’s entry-level automotive manufacturing training program entails eight weeks or 240 hours of basic manufacturing training activities.  Participants attend classes five days a week, for six hours a day.  The schedule includes a fifteen minute a.m. and p.m. break, and a one half hour lunch break.  The schedule and related activities are designed to closely replicate an actual work environment.  The Center also uses a point system in assessing a participant’s attendance and performance.  Both hands-on and classroom instruction is used to maximize the participant’s learning experiences.  Skills are acquired in the areas of machine operations, slitter assistants, banders, production assistants, welders and hi-lo drivers.  Upon completion of the program, participants are placed in positions of employment with one of the Center’s automotive supplier/partners.  These positions may include general assembly, production welding, injection molding or metal stamping operations.  The average starting wage is $8.50 per hour with an array of benefits.  Job placement may occur with any of the following automotive suppliers:

Bing Metals   Advantage Technologies JL Automotive
VITEC  Piston Automotive   Detroit Chassis
Bing Steel Diversified Chemicals
Plastech   Bing Assembly Systems

Once accepted into the program, participants are exposed to 30 hours of the Center’s Personal Growth and Development curriculum component.  This component provides assistance in developing the requisite attitudes and behaviors necessary to be successful in today’s workplace.  Upon completion the Personal Growth and Development component, the participant will acquire skills in the following training modules:

  • Injection Molding
  • Metal Stamping
  • Computer Operations
  • Production Welding
  • General Assembly
  • Continuous Improvement (basic math, blue print reading, metrology and the automotive industry's quality standards)

Participants are expected to perform Module tasks at the performance levels established by the suppliers.  Placement and follow-up activities will commence upon program completion.

The program’s entry criteria are as follows:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Successfully pass a drug screen
  • 6th grade reading and math level preferred as determined by the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) testing
  • Desire for employment in an automotive environment
